Significant growth in manufacturing

The output in manufacturing has increased by 3.8 per cent from November 2005 to January 2006 compared with the previous three months, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

The output in capital goods saw a 5.6 per cent improvement during this last period. A significant growth has taken place within oil platforms and modules. These changes came from a high level of activity related to the Norwegian Continental shelf and to constructions and installations on land. Transport equipment and fabricated metal products have also seen a significant increase in production.

Intermediate goods

The output in intermediate goods had a 4.1 per cent growth from November 2005 to January 2006 compared with previous three months. Wood and wood products and pulp, paper and paper products saw an improvement, but non-ferrous metals saw a minor drop during this last period.

Consumer goods

The consumer goods output has increased by 3.1 per cent from November last year to January this year compared with the previous three months. Food products and printing, publishing and reproduction have seen a growth in production.

Industrial production in the euro-zone

From December 2004 to December 2005 there was a 4.1 per cent growth in the Norwegian manufacturing output. The industrial production rose by 2.5 per cent in the euro-zone during the same period, according to figures from Euro stat.
