Decrease in manufacturing

The output in manufacturing dropped by 1.7 per cent in the period from August to October 2005, compared with the previous three months, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

The production of intermediate goods dropped by 2.2 per cent. This was due to a downturn in basic chemicals, basic metals and pulp, paper and paper products. There were shutdowns for maintenance for some producers and products of basic chemicals in October 2005.

Capital goods

The output in capital goods decreased by 1.5 per cent from August to October compared with the previous three months. Transport and machinery equipment saw a drop in the production. Oil platforms and fabricated metal products experienced an increase in the output.

Consumer goods

The consumer goods had a 1.7 per cent decrease in the output from August to October compared with the period from May to July this year. Food, beverages and tobacco and furniture saw a drop in the production. There were only minor changes within publishing, printing and reproduction.

Seasonally adjusted figures

The seasonally adjusted figures in the period from August to October 2005 should be compared with the figures from previous three months. The output in manufacturing had then a significant growth compared with the period from February to April 2005.
