Positive for manufacturing

There were evident signs of growth in Norwegian manufacturing in the second quarter of 2005 compared with the first quarter, according to seasonally adjusted figures. The production of intermediate goods, capital goods and consumer goods has increased.

The production of intermediate goods shows an improvement of 1.8 per cent from the first to the second quarter. This is due to an increase within all major industries such as refined petroleum products and parts of chemicals and chemical products, other non-metallic mineral products, pulp, paper and paper products as well as parts of basic metals. There was a decline in production of rubber and plastic products, basic chemicals and non-ferrous metals.

Capital goods

The figures are also positive for capital goods, with an increase in production of 2.5 per cent from the first to the second quarter. Industries such as oil platforms, machinery and equipment and transport equipment have shown a clear growth.

Consumer goods

Even for consumer goods there was an improvement in production in the second quarter compared with the previous quarter. This is mainly due to an increase in all food products, except for fish and fish products, as well as an increase within the Norwegian furniture industry and publishing, printing and reproduction industry.
