Slight changes in manufacturing

There were only minor changes in the output within manufacturing in the last three months period compared to the previous three months, according to seasonally adjusted figures. However, figures show variation within the different industries.

The production of electrical and optical equipment shows a positive development. This is due to an increase in demand in the export market for products such as measuring and control equipment. Some establishments associated with equipping ships within the manufacturing of machinery and equipment reports an increase in production, even though the division as a whole show a slight decline.

Oil platform industry

The output in the oil platform industry dropped in the last three months period compared to the previous period. This is mainly due to a change in the patterns of production within this division. The change involves the transition from developing platforms to installations on land and underwater solutions. It is expected that the activity from developing platforms will rise again later in 2005 due to the demand abroad.

Intermediate goods

The production of intermediate goods experienced a decrease in output within the period February to March when compared to the previous three months period. The decrease within basic chemicals and pulp, paper and paper products within the last three months period is similar to the increase the same divisions experienced in the previous three months period.

Consumer goods

Even consumer goods experienced a decline in production this last three months period. This is mainly due to a fall in the output of food products such as fish and fish products.
