Increase in manufacturing

There has been a slight increase within Norwegian manufacturing from September to November 2004, according to seasonally adjusted figures. Intermediate good, capital goods as well as consumer goods all experienced a growth.

Within the production of intermediate goods there has been a continuous improvement from September to November. Although manufacturing of wood and wood products and pulp, paper and paper products show slightly poorer figures in the latter part of the period, the overall picture for intermediate goods still shows an increase. This is due to the positive development within basic chemicals and basic metals. Only rubber and plastic products experienced decline throughout the period.

Consumer goods

The manufacturing of consumer goods experienced a slight increase from September to November. An improvement within the Norwegian furniture secures a rise within non-durable consumer goods, whereas food products, beverages and tobacco and publishing, printing and reproduction within durable consumer goods only show minor changes.

Capital goods

Norwegian manufacturing of capital goods increased from September to November, according to seasonally adjusted figures. Fabricated metal products, machinery and equipment n.e.c and oil platforms and modules all experienced an almost continuous increase. Manufacturing of transport equipment only show minor changes in the same period, although when comparing with the previous period from June to August, there is a noticeable increase for this particular group. This is mainly due to the increasing demand within building of ships, especially installation of ships in Norway throughout 2004.
