Increase in manufacturing

Norwegian manufacturing experienced an increase of 1.1 per cent third quarter 2004 when compared with the previous quarter. Positive figures within production of intermediate and consumer goods are the main contributors to this increase.

Production of intermediate goods increased by 1.3 per cent, mainly due to an improvement within the production of basic chemicals, as well as basic metals. A continuous growth in demand within the export market for intermediate goods contributes to this increase. Pulp, paper and paper products equally experienced a positive growth, whereas wood and wooden products experienced a decrease.

Capital goods up

The production of capital goods improved by 0.3 per cent during the same period, mainly due to the increase within the production of oil platforms and machinery and equipment n.e.c. Transport equipment experienced an increase after a period with low production within this specific division. This is based on a growing demand in the production new ships, though mainly fitting of equipment.

Consumer goods up 2.0 per cent

Consumer goods experienced an increase in the third quarter when compared with the second quarter. A positive development within non-durable consumer goods such as food products contributes to this. Even publishing, printing and reproduction experienced a slight increase.

Changes in publishing

Tables showing monthly figures from last period and back to 1986 will no longer be published from the Index of Production's website. Nevertheless, they will still be updated on a regular basis and available in Statistic Norway's StatBank.
