Increase in manufacturing

Seasonally adjusted figures show an increase of 1.3 per cent in Norwegian manufacturing in the second quarter when compared with the first quarter this year. This is mainly due to positive figures within the production of intermediate and capital goods.

Production of intermediate goods increased by 2.5 per cent. A growth in production of wood and wooden products, pulp, paper and paper products and basic metals among others contributes to this rise.

Capital goods

The production of capital goods increased by 2.1 per cent during the same period. The improvement within production of oil platforms is a result of increased investments as well as a higher activity level within oil field development, both expansions of existing platforms, as well as those in the process of construction. Machinery and equipment n.e.c also increased their production in the second quarter.

Consumer goods

Whereas intermediate and capital goods show an increase in production, consumer goods experienced a decline in the last quarter compared to the previous. Non-durable consumer goods such as food, beverages and tobacco, experienced a decrease along with publishing, printing and reproduction, whereas durable goods such as Norwegian furniture, experienced an increase.
