Increase in manufacturing

The manufacturing output has increased by 1.2 per cent from June to August this year compared with the three previous months, according to seasonally adjusted figures. This is related to an increase in intermediate and consumer goods output.

The intermediate goods output has increased by 2.4 per cent. Pulp, paper and paper products and basic metals have contributed significantly to these changes. Industries producing pulp, paper and paper products and industries producing basic metals have had a 9 and 4.1 per cent growth respectively. The consumer goods output has increased by slightly 1 per cent the last three months.

Decline since August last year

There has been a drop in the manufacturing output in August this year by 3.6 per cent since August last year, according to weekly-adjusted figures. The intermediate goods output has decreased by 4.4 per cent. This was related to a drop in wood and wood products, rubber and plastic products and other non-metallic mineral products. Pulp, paper and paper products have had a significant increase.

Drop in capital goods output

The capital goods output has decreased by 5.3 per cent since August last year. This is caused by a downturn in total demand and the Norwegian industries are facing an increased competition. Transport equipment has had a drop by more than 10 per cent in the output, but oil platforms and modules and the engineering industries also have had a decline.
