Increase in intermediate goods output

The manufacturing output has increased by 4 per cent from June to July this year, according to seasonally adjusted figures. This is related to significant increase in intermediate goods output.

The increase in intermediate goods output is related to the activity within the pulp, paper and paper products and non-ferrous metals industries, which both have had a significant increase in the production from June to July. Industries producing pulp, paper and paper products have not shut down for vacation and maintenance in July this year compared with July last year. The same can be said for industries producing non-ferrous metals in combination with an expanded production capacity. The market situation, however, for these two industries are not significant better than in June 2003, but slightly improved since July last year.

Capital goods output

Oil platforms and modules contributed to a slight increase in the capital goods output from June to July. These businesses have approximately a 5 per cent increase in the production output.

Unchanged output since July last year

The manufacturing output in July this year is approximately the same as in July last year, according to weekly-adjusted figures. Intermediate goods output has had an increase and capital goods output has had a drop. Pulp, paper and paper products and non-ferrous metals have contributed significantly to the increase within the intermediate goods output.

Engineering industries

Adjustments for vacations in July 2003 have been done according to same levels as July last year. Seasonally adjusted figures from publishing, printing and reproduction and the engineering industries must take these adjustments into account.
