Small changes in production

The manufacturing output has had a slight increase from March to April this year, according to seasonally adjusted figures. This is caused by an increase in the consumer goods output. The intermediate goods output has had a slight decrease.

The change in the consumer goods output is due to an increase in food products, which has seen a growth by 2.5 per cent from March to April. This growth is partly related to an increase in the meat and meat products output. The activity in processing and preserving of fish and fish products is still low.

Intermediate goods output: Down 0.4 per cent

The intermediate goods output has decreased by 0.4 per cent from March to April. This is related to a drop in the basic metals and the basic chemicals output. This is caused by shortages of demand and an increased competition. During the last tree months the output in pulp, paper and paper products has had an increase, compared with the previous months.

From January to April 2002: 1 per cent decrease

The manufacturing output has decreased by approximately 1 per cent from January to April 2002 compared with the same period last year, according to weekly-adjusted figures. This is related to

the intermediate goods output. The consumer goods output has had a slight decrease, but the capital goods output has had a slight increase.
