Decrease in manufacturing

According to seasonally adjusted figures, the manufacturing output has decreased by 3.1 per cent from November 2001 to December 2001 - especially related to a decrease in the intermediate, the capital and the consumer goods output.

Pulp, paper and paper products and basic metals have affected the intermediate goods output. This is partly related to a significant drop in the paper and the paperboard output. Fabricated metal products and transport equipment have affected the capital goods output.

Manufacturing output from 2000 to 2001

According to weekly adjusted figures the production in manufacturing declined by 1.1 per cent from 2000 to 2001. This was partly related to a drop in the intermediate goods output due to a decline in the pulp, paper and paper products and basic metal output. The capital goods output has increased by 0.2 per cent. Most of the engineering industries have had an increased output.

Weekly adjusted figures from December 2001

We have estimated the Christmas vacation in 2001 in the same way as in 2000. This is mostly related to the engineering industries and publishing, printing and reproduction. These estimations will give 15 days of work in December 2001 and 16 days in December 2000. The weekly adjusted figures do not take these differences into account and must be looked at carefully.

Changes in figures from November 2001

Due to new information about the oil and gas exploring activity, the figures from the Norwegian oil and gas extraction are revised. Some minor adjustments in the food and food products output due to new information about the herring meal and herring oil production have also been made.
