Decline in manufacturing

According to seasonally adjusted figures, the manufacturing output from August to September has decreased by 1.0 per cent. This is related to a decline in food products and pulp, paper and paper products.

Weak demand from export markets has caused a decrease in the production of pulp, paper and paper products by almost 9 per cent from August to September. Due to shortages of raw materials in the processing and preserving of fish and fish products, the food products output has decreased by more than 8 per cent. The production of grain mill products has also been down in the same period.

Third quarter - intermediate goods down

During the third quarter the manufacturing output declined by 0.5 per cent compared with the previous quarter, according to seasonally adjusted figures. Pulp, paper and paper products and basic chemicals have had a drop in the production output. These reductions have contributed to a decline in the output of intermediate goods. The engineering industries have contributed to an increased capital goods output during the third quarter.

Manufacturing output last 12 months

According to weekly adjusted figures the production in manufacturing declined by 0.5 per cent from September last year to September this year. This was related to a drop in the output of intermediate and the consumer goods. The output of capital goods has increased by 2.7 per cent due to good performances in metal products and in machinery and equipment industries.

Oil and gas extraction

The output from oil and gas extraction has increased by almost 8 per cent from August to September this year, according to seasonally adjusted figures. The gas extraction and the exploring activity have been on a high level in September.
