A slight decrease in manufacturing

According to weekly-adjusted figures the production in manufacturing decreased by almost 1 per cent during the first six months this year, compared with the corresponding period last year. Some differences existed among the manufacturing industries.

Metal products, machinery and equipment and transport industries have increased their production output during the first six months this year. Offshore-related activities and electrical and optical equipment have had a decline. The changes in the electrical and optical equipment were related to a sharp decline in the production of radio, television and communication equipment and apparatus.

Traditional export industries

The production of basic metal declined by over 5 per cent due to a lower demand and low export prices. Chemicals and chemical products have had a better performance. The production output increased by almost 5 per cent.

Energy goods output

The Norwegian oil and gas output increased by almost 1 per cent during the first six months this year compared with the corresponding period last year. However, a sharp decline in the production of electricity during the same period reduced the energy goods output by 0.5 per cent.
