Decline in manufacturing

According to seasonally adjusted figures, the production in oil and gas extraction, manufacturing, mining and quarrying and electricity supply decreased by 0.1 per cent from March to April. The manufacturing output had a 0.9 per cent decrease.

The output in the oil and gas extraction rose by almost one per cent from March to April. The output from the Norwegian oil and gas extraction was almost nine per cent higher than the corresponding month last year, according to weekly-adjusted data.

Changes in manufacturing from March to April

The decrease in the manufacturing output was partly related to changes within the production of food products and parts of the engineering industries. Machinery and equipment and transport equipment saw a decline in the production output, but oil platform and modules had an increase. Publishing, printing and reproduction also had a decline in the production output.

Changes the last 12 months

The manufacturing output in April this year was 2.7 per cent lower than in the corresponding month last year, according to weeklyadjusted data. Food products and electrical and optical equipment have had a week performance since April last year.

First quarter 2001

Due to new information production indices for the first quarter of 2001 are revised. Revised production figures from the Norwegian oil and gas extraction show a 1.5 per cent increase in the first quarter of 2001 compared with the same period last year, according to weekly-adjusted data. There are also some minor adjustments in the production of basic chemicals. No further changes have been made in the data from first quarter 2001.
