Decrease in sales of petroleum products

Total sales of petroleum products ended at 657 million litres in April. This is a decrease of 11.2 per cent or 83 million litres compared with April 2013.

A contributing factor to the reduced sales in April this year may be that Easter fell in March/April in 2013, while this year it was in April. Thus, there were two more delivery days in April 2013.

In April this year, sales of both diesel and gasoline decreased compared with April 2013. Sales of diesel decreased by 5.2 per cent, or 16 million litres, and totalled 289 million litres. Sales of gasoline amounted to 102 million litres; a decrease of 3.8 per cent or 4 million litres.

Sales of diesel and gasoline accounted for nearly 60 per cent of the total sales of petroleum products.

The average price of a litre of diesel was NOK 12.99, which is an increase of NOK 0.27 from April 2013. From March to April, the average price fell by NOK 0.22. One litre of gasoline on average cost NOK 14.69. This corresponds to an increase of NOK 0.18 from April 2013 and a decrease of NOK 0.02 from March to April.

Other petroleum products

Sales of other petroleum products also decreased. Sales of middle distillate amounted to 156 million litres; a decrease of just over 21 per cent. Middle distillates consist of, among other things, marine gas oil and light heating oils. Sales of light heating oils amounted to 15 million litres in April. This is 23 million litres less than the same month last year. One litre of heating oil cost on average NOK 11.04 in April. This is an increase of NOK 1.49 from April 2013 and an increase of NOK 0.01 from March. Sales of marine gas oil fell by 23 million litres and totalled 131 million litres.
