Decrease in petroleum product sales in 2011

In 2011, total sales of petroleum products ended at 9.5 billion litres; a 300 million litres or 3 per cent decrease compared to 2010.

Sales of gasoline and diesel, 1995-2011, million litres

Total sales of auto diesel ended at 3.5 billion litres and made up 36.3 per cent of the total sales of petroleum products. From 2010 to 2011, sales increased by 3 per cent or 100 million litres. The average price of one litre of auto diesel was NOK 13.10 in 2011; NOK 1.34 more than in 2010.

Sales of motor gasoline decreased by 8.2 per cent and amounted to 1.5 billion litres. Motor gasoline made up 15.6 per cent of the total sales of petroleum products. The prices of gasoline were NOK 13.95 for one litre of unleaded 95 octane and NOK 14.42 for one litre of unleaded 98 octane; an increase of NOK 1.26 and NOK 1.30 respectively.

In total, auto diesel and motor gasoline made up 52 per cent of the total sales of petroleum products in 2011 and sales of the two products combined decreased by 0.7 per cent.

Sales of heating and lighting kerosene and light heating oils 1995-2011, million litres

The use of heating products declined by 27.9 per cent from 2010 to 2011 and ended at 461 million litres. Mild weather, low electricity prices and political initiatives can be seen as contributing factors to this development. One litre of light heating oil on average cost NOK 9.71; NOK 1.51 more than the previous year.

December 2011

Total sales of petroleum products amounted to 857 million litres in December 2011, which is a decrease of 15.5 per cent compared to December 2010. Sales of heating products decreased by 62.1 per cent and sales ended at 39 million litres.

Auto diesel sales decreased by 7.7 per cent and amounted to 283 million litres. At the same time, sales of motor gasoline decreased by 11.7 per cent, and 115 million litres were sold in December.

Delivery days

There were 21 delivery days in December 2011, compared to 23 in December 2010.
