Increased sales of petroleum products first half of 2010

Total sales of petroleum petroleum products ended at 4.7 billion litres in the first six months this year. This equals an increase by 3 per cent or 137 million litres compared to the same period last year. Auto diesel sales still increase, and motor gasoline sales continue to decrease.

In the first half of 2010 sales of motor gasoline ended at 799 million litres and auto diesel at 1.6 billion litres. Sales of motor gasoline decreased by 6.2 per cent or 53 million litres, while sales of auto diesel increased by 8.5 per cent or 125 million litres. Motor gasoline and sales of auto diesel amounted to about 50 per cent of the total sales of petroleum products in the first half of 2010. Sales ended at 2.4 billion litres, 72 million more than in the same period last year, an increase by 3.2 per cent.

Increased prices on auto diesel and motor gasoline

The prices of both auto diesel and motor gasoline have increased during the first six months this year compared with the first six months last year. One litre 95 octane motor gasoline cost on average NOK 11.33 in the first half of 2009, in 2010 this had risen to NOK 12.60, an 11.2 per cent increase. Auto diesel rose from NOK 10.55 to NOK 11.61, equal to a 10.0 per cent increase.

Other products

Sales of light heating oil increased by 21.2 per cent and ended at 308 million litres, 54 million more than in the first half of 2009. Marine gas oil and diesel make up about 18 per cent of total sales and amounted to 875 million litres, equal to sales in the same period last year. Sales of jet fuel showed a small increase by 1.7 per cent or 7 million litres and ended at 440 million litres.

Sales in June

In June total sales of petroleum products ended at 868 million litres, 1.4 per cent or 13 million litres less than in June last year. Sales of auto diesel increased by 9.5 per cent and ended at 294 million litres. At the same time sales of motor gasoline ended at 151 million litres, 13 million litres or 7.7 per cent less than in June 2009.

There were 22 delivery days in June, the same as in June 2009.
