Index of orders in manufacturing (discontinued)Q3 2001

Statistics Norway has decided to stop the publication of the Index of orders in manufacturing from the first quarter of 2018. One reason for this was that the statistic previously was a part of Eurostat's regulation for short-term statistics, but this requirement was removed from the regulation in 2012. However, indicators for new orders and stock of orders are available in Business tendency survey for manufacturing, mining and quarrying.

Decline in new orders

The order-based industry reports a significant decline in new orders received in the 3rd quarter 2001. The reduction is due to lack of demand from both the domestic and the export markets. Total stock of orders continued to fall.

After a short period of stability, the order-based industry experienced a further decline in new orders received throughout the 3rd quarter 2001. Total demand was 18 per cent below the level a year earlier. Total stock of orders was down for the second consecutive quarter, but was still 14 per cent higher than in the 3rd quarter 2000. This is mostly due to high stock of orders in the Transport Equipment industry.
