Index of orders in manufacturing (discontinued)Q2 2001

Statistics Norway has decided to stop the publication of the Index of orders in manufacturing from the first quarter of 2018. One reason for this was that the statistic previously was a part of Eurostat's regulation for short-term statistics, but this requirement was removed from the regulation in 2012. However, indicators for new orders and stock of orders are available in Business tendency survey for manufacturing, mining and quarrying.

No change in new orders

The number of new orders received throughout the 2nd quarter 2001 was about the same as in the previous quarter, but slightly lower than 12 months before. The total stock of orders showed a moderate decline, but remained relatively high.

New orders received and unfilled orders. Unadjusted. 1. quarter 1995-1. quarter 2001. 1995=100

The order based industry reports that the total stock of orders once again seems to stabilise after a short period of turbulence. New orders received throughout the 2nd quarter 2001 were up 29 per cent compared with 12 months before, but all the same slightly lower than in the previous quarter. Whether this implies a round out or a future decline in total stock of orders is too early to tell.
