Index of orders in manufacturing (discontinued)Q1 2001

Statistics Norway has decided to stop the publication of the Index of orders in manufacturing from the first quarter of 2018. One reason for this was that the statistic previously was a part of Eurostat's regulation for short-term statistics, but this requirement was removed from the regulation in 2012. However, indicators for new orders and stock of orders are available in Business tendency survey for manufacturing, mining and quarrying.

Still high stock of orders

The order based industry reports that new orders received throughout the 1st quarter 2001 were at the same level as it was 12 months before and therefore significantly lower than in the 4th quarter 2000. The total stock of orders showed a steady growth throughout the 1st quarter 2001.

A significant fall in new orders received for the Transport equipment industry seemed to confirm previous assumptions regarding the impact of the liquidation of governmental subsidies from January 1st 2001. Due to the fact that the shipbuilding industry is a business with orders of long-term completion, it is natural to assume that the total stock of orders will remain relatively high.
