Increased stocks of finished goods

Total stocks in manufacturing were up from the first quarter of 2008 to the first quarter of 2009 and are now at a high level. The rise of stocks is mainly driven by higher stocks of finished goods.

Stock volume. Changes in one year

In fixed prices, the total stocks were up by 4.2 per cent from the first quarter of 2008 to the first quarter of 2009. The main reason for this was higher stocks of finished goods.

Unfinished goods correspond to products or parts of such products under construction. At a generally high activity level, the stocks of unfinished goods will usually be at a higher level than in a lower activity level.

Finished goods correspond to products that are made ready for further sale to customers. A weakened demand will lead to stocks of finished goods increases if the production is not adjusted according to the demand. Weakened demand and reduced production will over time lead to a reduction in the stock of finished goods.
