Gross investments in hydro power plants came to NOK 4.4 billion, while gross investments in thermal power plants and wind power plants were NOK 0.4 and 1.5 billion respectively. Investments in central grid systems, regional grid systems and local grid systems were NOK 2.4, 1.5 and 3.8 billion in 2012 respectively.

Lower operating profit

The operating profit in the power industry came to NOK 26.5 billion in 2012; a decrease of 13 per cent compared with 2011. This may be seen in conjunction with lower electricity prices. Production plants had the highest operating profit in 2012, with NOK 22 billion. The operating profit of grid companies amounted to NOK 2.7 billion, while the operating profit of other plants totalled NOK 1.8 billion.

Annual profit in the power industry came to NOK 13.2 billion in 2012. This is a drop of 14 per cent compared with the previous year.

All time high electricity generation

Electricity generation totalled 147.7 TWh in 2012; the highest level ever recorded in the annual electricity statistics. Norway’s exports of power came to 22 TWh in 2012, while imports totalled 4.2 TWh. This gave a net export of 17.8 TWh.

Increase in the electricity consumption

There was a rise of 3.3 per cent in total net electricity consumption from 2011 to 2012 and the consumption totalled 118.7 TWh. The increase may be seen in light of the colder weather in 2012.

New table on end user groups in the municipalitiesOpen and readClose

Statistics Norway was commissioned by the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate to develop a statistics table with information on electricity consumption in Norwegian municipalities of different end users. In connection with this work, some 2011 figures on consumption and prices have been revised. More information is available in “About the statistics”.
