Further increase in manufacturing turnover

Seasonally-adjusted figures showed that the total turnover in Norwegian manufacturing increased by 2.5 per cent from September to November compared to the previous three-month period. The turnover was unchanged from October to November.

The index value for turnover in manufacturing was 157.2 (2005=100) in the period August to October 2018, compared to 153.3 in the previous three-month period, according to seasonally-adjusted figures. Since the bottom level in the fourth quarter of 2016, total turnover in manufacturing has increased 18 per cent.

Three-month change: increased turnover in refined petroleum products, chemicals and pharmaceutical products

Seasonally-adjusted figures showed that the turnover in Norwegian manufacturing increased by 2.5 per cent from September to November 2018 compared with the previous three-month period. The majority of the increase stemmed from the domestic market. The biggest contribution to the increase came from the industry grouping refined petroleum, chemical and pharmaceutical products, which had a rise of 16 per cent in the period. Ships, boats and oil platforms also had a significant growth in turnover in this period.

Monthly change: unchanged manufacturing turnover

Total Norwegian manufacturing turnover show a marginal decline of 0.1 per cent from October to November 2018, according to seasonally-adjusted figures.

Machinery and equipment constituted the most positive contribution, with a growth of 30 per cent, and the industry grouping refined petroleum, chemical and pharmaceutical products made the most negative contribution to this development. Basic metals also reported a negative development in turnover from October to November.

Monthly change: higher turnover in manufacturing in the euro area in October 2018

Manufacturing in the euro area was up 1.1 per cent from September 2018 to October 2018, according to seasonally-adjusted figures. Total turnover in Norwegian manufacturing went up 0.3 per cent in the same period. In the Nordic countries, the turnover in Denmark and Sweden was up 2.8 and 2.6 per cent respectively, according to Eurostat.
