Construction sales up 21 per cent

Preliminary figures show that the turnover for enterprises with building and construction as their main activity amounted to almost NOK 284 billion in 2007 - an increase of 21 per cent from the year before.

Turnover, by industry group. Enterprises. 2005-2007. Billion NOK. Preliminary figures

Employment, by industry group. Enterprises. 2005-2007. Preliminary figures

From 2006 to 2007, the number of enterprises in the construction industry increased by almost 3 465, to 43 163 enterprises. These enterprises employed a total of 173 910 persons, an increase of 10.2 per cent from 2006.

Increase in all main industrial groupings

All main industrial groupings experienced increased turnover and employment from 2006 to 2007. The strongest growth was recorded in the industrial group, ‘Site preparation’. In this group, turnover increased by 23.4 per cent from 2006, while employment rose by 16.2 per cent. 60 per cent of the turnover in the construction industry was generated in the industrial group ‘Building of complete constructions or parts thereof; civil engineering’. The total turnover in this group amounted to NOK 171 billion, an increase of 21.9 per cent from 2006. The number of employed persons in this group increased by 10 per cent to 88 383 persons.

Preliminary figures

Preliminary figures for structural statistics are published on enterprise level only. In general, figures for enterprises will show other values than figures for local kind-of-activity units. This is due to the fact that an enterprise registered with its main activity in one industry may have local kind-of-activity units in other industries. The data have not been as thoroughly revised as they will be when the final figures are published in April 2009.

Deviation between preliminary and final figures

Comparisons between preliminary and final figures in 2005 and 2006 show that the final figures for number of enterprises in the construction industry as a total were 1.1 and 0.9 per cent lower than the preliminary figures. The final figures in 2005 and 2006 for turnover were 0.3 and 0.2 per cent lower than preliminary figures.

For employment, the deviation between preliminary and final figures was 4.2 and 0.6 per cent lower in the final figures in 2005 and 2006

Uncertain gross investment figures

The preliminary figures for gross investment in the construction industry have the greatest uncertainty. The final figures in 2005 and 2006 were 16.3 and 16.0 per cent higher than the preliminary figures. This is due to an improved data basis for estimating final figures.
