Construction sales up 2.5 per cent

Sales in local kind-of-activity units (KAUs) in the construction industry, including state- and municipal-owned units, amounted to NOK 131.7 billion in 2000, which is 2.5 per cent higher than the year before. 3 per cent of the local KAUs generated about half of the sales.

The local KAUs in the construction industry employed 133 783 persons.

The wage cost of the 33 979 local KAUs in the construction industry amounted to NOK 35.6 billion in 2000. The local KAUs investments increased from NOK 2935 to NOK 3002 million, an increase of 2.3 per cent compared with 1999. All amounts exclude VAT.

The general construction of buildings and civil engineering works, which is the biggest industry subclass within the construction industry, had 47 550 employees in 2000. The sales in the 10 978 local KAUs within this subclass amounted to NOK 56.6 billion, an increase of 4.3 per cent compared with 1999. The wage costs for those units rose by 1.9 per cent to 12.8 billion from 1999 to 2000.

Local KAUs with 2 or less employees constituted about 75 per cent of the construction industry. Local KAUs with 20 or more employees constituted about 3 per cent of the construction industry, but generated about half of the sales of the construction industry.

Local KAUs and enterprises

The sales in the construction enterprises were 134.2 billion in 2000. The same construction enterprises employed 134 864 employees. The structural statistics is published in both enterprises level and local KAU level. The figures on the enterprise level may differ from those on local KAU level. This is due to some enterprises being registered in one industry subclass after main activity, but also consisting of local KAUs in other subgroups.
