3 000 more municipal dwellings in 2009

The number of municipal dwellings in Norway passed 100 000 in 2009. The municipalities have about 100 300 dwellings at their disposal, which is an increase of almost 3 000 dwellings from 2008.

Most of the dwellings are owned by the municipalities themselves; about 86 per cent in 2009. About 9 per cent were privately owned with municipal right of disposal, and around 5 per cent were rented by the municipality for sub-leasing in 2009.

About 27 400 of the municipal dwellings were nursing and care dwellings in 2009.

Almost 43 per cent, or about 42 800 of the municipal dwellings, were accessible to wheelchair users.

Most of the municipal dwellings, 96 per cent, were let out on hire as per December 2009.
