Small increase in building activity

Around 4.7 million square meters of utility floor space were given building starts during the first six months of 2013. This is an increase of almost 4 per cent compared with the same period last year.

A total of 14 800 new dwellings were given building starts in January-June this year; an increase of almost 600 dwellings. This is an increase of a good 4 per cent. The underlying trend has however been pointing downwards the last months.

Building starts for holiday properties (cottages), private garages and other non-industrial activities decreased by 0.7 per cent.
