It is especially buildings within transport and detail that drives the increase.

A total of more than 12 300 new dwellings were given building starts in January-May this year; an increase of more than 1 000 dwellings or around 9 per cent. The underlying trend has however been pointing downwards the last months.

Building starts for holiday properties (cottages), private garages and other non-industrial activities decreased 2 per cent.

So far this year, building starts have been given for almost 3.8 million square metres, an increase of 5.5 per cent compared to the same period last year. Of this, almost 1.7 million square metres of utility floor space are for dwellings.
