More than 10 000 new dwellings

A total of 10 308 new dwellings were given building starts in January-April this year. This is an increase of 16.1 per cent compared with the same period last year.

A total of 2 415 new dwellings were given building starts in April; an increase of 301 dwellings compared with April last year. This is an increase of a good 14 per cent.

Figures for square metres of utility floor space are, however, lower. Hitherto building permits have been given for almost 3.1 million square metres; an increase of 5.6 per cent, whereof almost 1.4 million square metres of utility floor space are for dwellings.

Within utility floor space for other than dwellings there has been a minor decrease. Utility floor space in the industrial sector has decreased by 1.5 per cent, and holiday properties (cottages), private garages and other non-industrial activities decreased by 1 per cent.
