7 900 new dwellings

Preliminary figures show an increase of 17 per cent in new dwellings in the first quarter of 2013 compared with the same period last year. However, the underlying trend has been decreasing for the last half year.

A total of 7 900 new dwellings were given building starts in January-March; an increase of over 1 100 dwellings compared with the same period last year. This is an increase of almost 17 per cent.

Almost half of all new dwellings were started in the counties along the Oslo fjord; Oslo, Akershus, Buskerud, Vestfold and Østfold.

Fewer new industrial buildings

So far this year, a total of 839 400 square metres of utility floor space for industrial buildings have been started. This is 9.1 per cent less compared with 2012. Holiday properties (cottages), private garages and other non-industrial activities decreased by 4.6 per cent.
