Decrease in building of flats

In the second quarter of 2013, building was started on 6 900 dwellings, with a total 992 000 square metres of utility floor space. New dwellings decreased by 7 per cent compared with the second quarter of 2012.

The drop in building starts for multi-dwelling houses in particular pulled down the total, with a decrease of almost 39 per cent. However, when comparing the first halves of 2012 and 2013, there has been an increase in new flats of a good 1 per cent.

In the second quarter of 2013, building was started on 1 147 000 square metres of utility floor space within the industrial sector. This is an increase of a good 16 per cent. The level of building activity is especially high within the office and business sector and transport and communication buildings.
