Largest increase in industrial sector

In the third quarter of 2010, building was started on 888 000 m2 of utility floor space for other than dwellings in the industrial sector. This is 172 000 m2 of utility floor space more than in the third quarter of 2009.

Utility floor space within the industrial sector increased by 24 per cent. The increase in the industrial sector is mainly due to an increase in industrial buildings and warehouses. Figures for the third quarter last year were however the lowest in more than 10 years.

Increase in industrial buildings and warehouses

In the third quarter of 2010, building was started for 254 000 square metres of utility floor space in industrial buildings and warehouses. This is an increase of 98 000 square metres compared with the same period in 2009; an increase 62 per cent. The third quarter of 2009 did however have quite a few building starts for industrial buildings in general.

Broad increase in building activity

Building starts on utility floor space for dwellings increased in most sectors. After industrial buildings and warehouses, residential buildings have had the largest increase in utility floor space, with an increase of about 70 000 square metres. An exemption here is building work starts of residential buildings, with a decrease in area and numbers of 3 and 15 per cent respectively.
