Small changes in new dwellings

Preliminary figures show small changes in new residential buildings. The number of new dwellings decreased by 1.5 per cent in January-March compared with the corresponding period last year. The decrease has been largest in Oslo, and the largest increase has been in Sør-Trøndelag county.

Building starts measured in utility floor space for dwellings decreased by 1.8 per cent.

Great regional differences

The regional differences in the number of new dwellings vary considerably. In Sør-Trøndelag county, the number of building starts for dwellings went up by 428 dwellings, from 200 new dwellings in January-March last year to 628 this year. Oslo county, on the other hand, had the largest decrease, with 387 fewer new dwellings, from 600 new dwellings in January-March 2009 to 213 hitherto this year.

Largest decrease in industrial sector

A total of 921 200 square metres of utility floor space for industrial buildings were started in January - March. This is 9.8 per cent less compared with the same period in 2009.
