Strong growth for transport and communication buildings

During the fourth quarter of 2007 almost 1 492 000 square metres of utility floor space for industrial buildings was registered started - up 39.6 per cent from the corresponding period of 2006. For 2007 as a whole, a total of 4 499 000 square metres of utility floor space for industrial buildings was started. This is 25.9 per cent more than in 2006. With a growth of 176.6 per cent, utility floor space for transport and communication buildings increased the most, to 437 000 square metres. Dwelling-starts still dominated by multi-dwelling buildings

A total of 32 679 dwellings were started during 2007, 2 per cent less than in 2006. Since 2003 dwelling-starts have been dominated by flats in multi-dwelling buildings. This continues in 2007, with 47.3 per cent of the total-dwelling-starts. However, the number of started flats in multi-dwelling buildings is 3.5 per cent lower compared to 2006. The number of dwelling-starts in houses with two dwellings had a 9.6 per cent reduction compared to 2006, while the number of dwellings started in row houses, linked houses and houses with 3-4 dwellings decreased with 7.8 per cent. On the other hand, building-starts for detached houses increased by 4.3 per cent from 2006 to 2007.

Preliminary figures

The figures presented in the quarterly building statistics are preliminary. The figures presented here may therefore deviate from the final figures for 2007. This is due to possible corrections made in the Ground Property, Address and Building Register (GAB) by Norwegian municipalities.

Conversion to new property register

As of 5 November 2007 the municipalities will be transferred in groups from the Ground Parcel, Address and Building Register (GAB) to the new property register, Matrikkelen. All municipalities will be transferred by the end of February 2009. In connection with the conversion there may be some delay in the registration of the municipalities that are being transferred. The Norwegian Mapping and Cadastre Authority has an overview of transfer dates for each municipality .
