Decrease for dwellings in December

In the year to November 2007 the number of started dwellings increased compared with the corresponding period in 2006. However, due to fewer dwelling starts in December the number of dwelling starts in 2007 was lower than in 2006.

Preliminary figures show that 32 402 dwellings were started during 2007, a 1.1 per cent decrease from the previous year. In December, 1 982 dwellings were started, a decrease of 45.8 per cent from December 2006. Almost 4.5 million square metres of utility floor space for industrial purposes was started during 2007. This is a 26.2 per cent increase from the record high level in 2006. Wholesale and retail trade accounted for 929 900 square metres, a 6.8 per cent increase compared with 2006.

Preliminary figures

The figures presented in the monthly building statistics are preliminary. The figures presented here may therefore deviate from the figures that will be presented for the fourth quarter and the final figures for 2007. This is due to possible corrections made in the Ground Parcel, Address and Building Register (GAB) by Norwegian municipalities.

Conversion to new property register

As of 5 November 2007 the municipalities will be transferred in groups from the Ground Parcel, Address and Building Register (GAB) to the new property register, Matrikkelen. All municipalities will be transferred by the end of February 2009. In connection with the conversion there may be some delay in the registration of the municipalities that are being transferred. The Norwegian Mapping and Cadastre Authority has an overview of transfer dates for each municipality .
