Building of holiday houses levelling out

In the third quarter of 2007, the utility floor space for holiday houses started decreased by 3.7 per cent compared with the third quarter 2006. So far this year 4.2 per cent more floor space for holiday houses is started than in the first nine months of 2006.

After a downturn in 2003, utility floor space for holiday houses started increased between 17 and 27 per cent yearly until 2006. So far this year, the figures indicate that this strong year to year growth is coming to a stop on a record high level. In the first nine month of 2007, a total of 447 000 square metres of utility floor space for holiday houses were started.

More block of flats

After a decrease in the first half of 2006, the number of flats in multi-dwelling buildings increased by 28.3 per cent in the third quarter of 2007 compared with the same period last year. A total of 7 115 dwellings were started during the third quarter of 2007, of which 48 per cent was flats in multi-dwelling buildings.

Increasing growth rate for industrial buildings

In the third quarter of 2007, the utility floor space for industrial and public buildings started increased by 39.2 per cent compared with the third quarter 2006. So far this year, a total of 3 million square meter floor space for industrial and public buildings are started, an increase of 20.1 per cent compared with the first nine month of 2006.

The figures that are presented in the monthly building statistics is preliminary, and the sum of the three months in a quarter can deviate from the quarterly building statistics. This is because there may be corrections in the Ground Parcel, Address and Building Register (GAB).
