Increased building of holiday houses

During the first half of 2007, building of 9 per cent more utility floor space for holiday houses was started than in the first half of 2006.

A total of 292 000 square metres of utility floor space for holiday houses were started during the first half this year. Buskerud was the county with the largest share of utility floor space started for holiday houses during this period, with a total of 52 000 square metres.

More detached houses

Compared to the first half of 2006, the number of started detached houses increased by 13.1 per cent to 3 966 dwellings. In row house, linked house and houses with 3 or 4 dwellings, a total of 2 465 dwellings were started, up 11.1 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year. The number of flats in multi-dwelling buildings decreased by 6.1 per cent compared with the first six months of 2006, but is still at a high level with 8 005 dwelling-starts.

A total of 16 648 dwellings were started during the first half of 2007, a 3.3 per cent increase compared to 2006. Started utility floor space for dwellings in the same period amounted to 2 058 000 square metres, 8.1 per cent more than last year.

The figures that are presented in the monthly building statistics is preliminary, and the sum of the three months in a quarter can deviate from the quarterly building statistics. This is because there may be corrections in the Ground Parcel, Address and Building Register (GAB).
