Dwelling starts up 6.6 per cent

During the five first months this year a total of 13 773 dwellings were started. This is a 6.6 per cent increase compared to the corresponding period last year.

Most dwellings were started in Akershus, with 2 148 dwellings. Then follow Rogaland and Hordaland with 1 721 and 1 671 dwellings. A total of 1 692 300 square metres of utility floor space for dwellings was started during January-May this year, a 9.8 growth from the first five months in 2006.

Strong increase for industrial buildings

A total of 1 583 800 square metres of utility floor space for industrial buildings was started during the first five months this year, a 14.7 per cent increase compared to the corresponding period in 2006. The majority of the utility floor space was started for wholesale and retail trade, with 424 800 square metres during January-May. This is an increase of 21.1 per cent compared to the same period last year.
