Strongest increase for industrial buildings

A total of 3 157 800 square metres of utility floor space were started in the period January to April. This is an increase of 11.9 per cent compared with the same period last year. The largest increase is recorded for industrial buildings.

A total of 1 335 800 square metres of utility floor space were started for industrial buildings during the first four months of 2007. This is an increase of 15.2 per cent from the corresponding period in 2006. The majority of the utility floor space was started for wholesale and retail trade (358 800 square metres), followed by buildings for manufacturing purposes (211 800 square metres).

In the period January to April, a total of 443 300 square metres of utility floor space for holiday houses, garages etc. was started, a 13.7 per cent increase compared with the same period last year.

Increase in dwelling starts

During the first four months of this year, 11 325 dwellings were started, an increase of 4.3 per cent compared with the same period last year.
