Small decrease in dwelling-starts

During the first three months this year 8 341 dwellings were registered started, a reduction of 2.4 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year. The number of dwelling-starts is however at a high level.

Number of dwellings started. 1st quarter 2000-2007

Most new dwellings was started in Akershus, with 1 617 dwellings. Compared to the first three months of 2006 this is a 110.3 per cent increase.

The number of dwelling-starts in Oslo decreased by 61.4 per cent, to 643 dwellings started during the first quarter this year. The number of dwellings started during the first three months last year was however much higher than during the previous years. In Rogaland there was a 5.9 per cent reduction in the number of dwellings started in the first quarter, but the level of dwelling-starts in this county is still high compared to the corresponding periods in 2000-2005.

Less flats in multi-dwelling buildings

A total of 3 937 flats in multi-dwelling buildings were started during January-March this year, a 14.2 per cent reduction compared to the corresponding period last year. This decrease is connected to the large reduction building of multi-dwelling flats in Oslo. During the first three months this year only 546 flats in multi-dwelling buildings was started in Oslo, compared to 1 465 during the first quarter of 2006.

The number of dwelling-starts in houses with two dwellings had a 5.2 per cent reduction compared to the first quarter of 2006, with 788 dwelling started during January-March this year. A total of 1 928 dwellings in detached houses was started during this period, a 11.3 per cent increase. The number of dwellings started in row houses, linked houses and houses with 3-4 dwellings was at the same level as during the first three months of 2006.

Preliminary figures

The figures that are presented in the monthly building statistics is preliminary, and the sum of the three months in a quarter can deviate from the quarterly building statistics. This is because there may be corrections in the Ground Property, Address and Building Register (GAB).
