High building activity in January
During January 2007 a total of 970 900 square metre of utility floor space was recorded started, a 28.2 per cent growth compared to January 2006.
A total of 390 000 square metre of this utility floor space was started for industrial purposes, an increase of 34.8 per cent compared to the first month of 2006. Started floor space for holiday properties, garages etc. amounted to 144 600 square metres, an increase of 38.3 per cent compared to January 2006.
I addition a total of 436 200 square metre of utility floor space for dwellings was recorded started, an increase of 20.0 per cent compared to January 2006. A total of 3 625 dwellings were recorded started during January this year. Compared to the 2 907 dwellings started during January last year this is a 24.7 per cent increase.
