Strong year for holiday houses

Preliminary quarterly figures show that 625 000 square metres of utility floor space was started for holiday houses during 2006. This is an increase of 17.5 per cent compared to 2005.

196 000 square metres of utility floor space for holiday homes was registered started during the 4th quarter of 2006.

Of the 33 351 dwellings started during 2006, 48 per cent are flats in multi-dwelling buildings. 24 per cent of the dwellings are detached houses, 15.4 in row houses and linked houses or houses with three or four dwellings and 9.5 per cent in houses with two dwellings. The number of started flats in multi-dwelling buildings has increased the most, with a 17 per cent growth compared to 2005. Detached houses had a reduction of 7.1 per cent.

Growth for industrial buildings

A total of 3 573 000 square metres of utility floor space for industrial buildings was started during 2006, 7.6 per cent more than during 2005. Most utility floor space for industrial buildings was started in Rogaland with 470 000 square metres. Finnmark is the county with the lowest number of square metres of utility floor space started for industrial buildings, with only 21 000 square metres during 2006. Most utility floor space for industrial buildings, was started for office and business buildings, with a total of 1 082 000 square metres. This is an increase of 16.3 per cent compared to the previous year. Buildings for agriculture and fishery had a reduction of 14.7 per cent compared to 2005, with a total of 474 000 square metres of utility floor space started during 2006.

The figures presented in the quarterly building statistics are preliminary. The figures presented here may therefore deviate from the final figures for 2006. This is due to possible corrections made in the Ground Property, Address and Building Register (GAB) by Norwegian municipalities.
