33 000 new dwellings in 2006?

During the first ten months of 2006, the number of new dwelling starts in Norway came to 25 992 - an increase of 4.9 per cent compared with the same period last year. If this level of growth continues in the last two months, approximately 33 000 new dwellings will have been started in 2006.

So far this year, a total of 3.2 million square-metres of utility floor space for dwellings are recorded started, up 4.3 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Strong increase in Oslo, decrease in Finnmark

A total of 4 338 dwellings are recorded started in Oslo in the period from January to October this year, up 51.7 per cent from the corresponding period in 2005. It is also recorded a strong increase in Troms in this period. In this county, building of 999 dwellings are started, an increase by 21.1 per cent.

The strongest decrease is recorded in Finnmark. Here, a total of 205 dwellings are recorded started during the first ten months of 2006, and this is 51.0 per cent less compared with last year.

Increase in industrial buildings

So far in 2006, a total of 3.9 million square-metres of utility floor space are recorded started for non-residential purpose. Of this, 2.8 million square-metres are recorded started for industrial buildings, an increase by 10.9 per cent compared with the corresponding period of 2005. The remaining 1.1 million square-metres are for holiday houses and residential garages. In this category the figures shows a decrease of 2.8 per cent compared with last year.
