New construction up 5.6 per cent

During the first nine months this year, a total of 6.2 million square metres of utility floor space is started. This is an increase of 5.6 per cent compared with the corresponding period of 2005.

Most new floor space is recorded started for industrial purposes, 2.5 million square metres so far this year. The largest growth is recorded for buildings for real estate, renting and business activities, where 320 200 square metres of utility floor space is started, an increase of 75.4 per cent compared with the first nine months last year. Most utility floor space is started in buildings for retail trade and repair of personal/household goods, with 575 700 square metres so far this year.

More dwellings

So far this year, building of 22 410 new dwellings is recorded started. This is an increase of 4.3 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year. In the same period, the growth in started utility floor space for dwellings is 3.2 per cent.

Utility floor space started for holiday houses and residential garages is at the same level as last year, 933 200 square metres so far this year.
