Building activity still high

During the seven first months this year a total of 4.7 million square metres of utility floor space was started, an increase of 5.9 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year.

Of the total utility floor space 2.1 million square metres is started for dwellings and 1.9 million square metres for industrial purposes. Compared with the period from January to July last year, the increase in started utility floor space is 2.7 per cent for dwellings and 13.0 per cent for industrial buildings. Utility floor space started for holiday houses, residential garages etc, is almost at the same level as last year, 0.7 million square metres.

So far this year, building of 17 419 new dwellings is registered started, an increase of 4.9 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year.
