Slight decrease in dwelling starts
During the first five months this year building of 12 919 dwellings were started. This is 1.2 per cent less than during the same period last year.
Despite of the decrease from 2005, the number of dwelling starts is still between 25 and 52 per cent higher compared with the corresponding period in the years from 2000 to 2004.
During the period from January to May this year a total of 1.54 million square metres of utility floor space was started for dwelling purposes, a decrease of 2.6 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year.
Other building starts increased
During the period from January to May this year a total of 3.4 million square metres of utility floor space were started. Construction starts of non-residential buildings made up 1.86 million square metres of this floor space, 7.1 per cent more than during the first five months last year.
