More new industrial buildings

A total of 1 159 300 square metres of utility floor space for industrial buildings were started during the first four months of 2006. This is an increase of 11.3 per cent compared to the corresponding period of 2005.

157 500 square metres of utility floor space for real estate, renting and business activities were started during the period from January to April this year, an increase of 113.4 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year. During the same period 89 300 square metres of utility floor space for health and social work were started, 83.0 per cent more than during the first four months of 2005. The largest decrease was recorded for building starts for agriculture and forestry purposes, 19.1 per cent less compared with the corresponding period in 2005.

A total of 389 900 square metres utility floor space for holiday houses and garages are started so far this year, 13.5 per cent more than in the period from January to April in 2005.

Increase in dwelling-starts

During the first four months of 2006 a total of 10 854 dwellings were started, an increase of 4.8 per cent compared to this period last year. Total utility floor space for the new dwellings started during the first four months is 1 274 000 square metres, an increase of 2.6 per cent compared with the same period in 2005.
