More flats in multi-dwelling buildings

During the first quarter of 2006 building of a total of 4 591 flats in multi-dwelling buildings were started, an increase by 74.0 per cent compared with the first three months in 2005. A total of 8 542 dwellings where started during the first quarter, up 16.1 per cent compared with the first quarter in 2005.

Every second building started in the first quarter of 2005 was a flat in a multi-dwelling building. 30 per cent of these flats are being built in Oslo.

For houses with two dwellings the number of dwelling starts is at the same level as in the first quarter last year. A total of 831 dwellings where recorded started in this building category during the first quarter this year. For detached houses and row houses, linked houses and houses with 3 or 4 dwellings there was recorded a decrease by 10.7 and 18.7 per cent respectively.

A total of 993 000 square metres of utility floor space for dwellings was recorded started during the first quarter this year. This is an increase by 9.1 per cent compared with the first quarter in 2005.

More new holiday houses and industrial buildings

143 000 square meters of holiday houses were started in the first quarter of 2006, an increase of 57.1 per cent compared with the first quarter in 2005.

Also the building of new industrial buildings is increasing. During the first quarter this year building of 947 000 square meters utility floor space for industrial purposes were recorded started. This is an increase by 17.3 per cent compared with the first quarter last year.

Deviation from the monthly building statistics

The figures that are presented in the monthly building statistics is preliminary, and the sum of the three months in a quarter can deviate from the quarterly building statistics. This is because there may be corrections in the Ground Property, Address and Building Register (GAB).
