Building of new holiday houses increased

174 000 square metres of utility floor space were started for holiday houses during the fourth quarter of 2005. During the entire year 532 000 square metres were started, 21.5 per cent more than in 2004.

10 115 dwellings was recorded started during the fourth quarter of 2005, an increase of 13.5 per cent compared with the corresponding quarter in 2004. In 2005 building of totally 31 608 dwellings was recorded started - up 6.0 per cent compared with 2004.

5 149 of the new dwellings that was recorded started during 2005 are dwellings in row houses, linked houses and houses with 3 or 4 dwellings - an increase of 28 per cent from 2004. The number of dwellings in houses with two dwellings and detached houses increased by 25.7 and 10.3 per cent respectively from 2004 to 2005. The number of new flats in multi-dwelling buildings saw a little decrease in 2005 - down 1.9 per cent from the year before.

More new industrial buildings

1 030 000 square meters of utility floor space for industrial buildings where started during the fourth quarter of 2005 - up 11.4 per cent from the corresponding quarter in 2004. During 2005 a total of 3 320 000 square meters of utility floor space for industrial buildings where started, an increase of 12.7 per cent from 2004. Hotel- and restaurant buildings and office- and business buildings saw the strongest increase from the year before. In these two building categories it was started 45.5 and 33.6 per cent more floor space respectively.

Revised quarterly figures for 2005

The quarterly figures that previously were published during 2005 have been too low, and have therefore been revised. This is mainly due to that data from the GAB-register, which is the basis for the building statistics, has been imperfect. In addition there may be corrections in the GAB-register.
