23 000 new dwellings

The number of new dwelling starts in Norway came to 23 000 during the first ten months of 2005 - a decrease of 5.5 per cent compared to the same period last year. There are large regional differences in the building of new dwellings compared to last year.

In the counties of Finnmark and Oppland the number of dwellings started from January to October this year has almost doubled compared to the same period last year. The counties with the largest decrease are Oslo and Hedmark, where the number of dwelling starts nearly has been halved. While 5 384 dwellings were started in Oslo the first ten months last year, the corresponding number this year is 2 896.

Started square meters of utility floor space for dwellings in the period January to October 2005 is more or less on par with the same period last year - a decrease of 0.2 per cent. Started square meters of utility floor space for other than dwellings have increased by 1.3 per cent compared to the first ten months last year.
